Born in Battambang, lives and works in Cambodia.
Kim Hak obtained a diploma in Tourism at the National Institute of Management. He develops a passion for photography and participates in various workshops at the University of Kuala Lumpur, Angkor Photography Workshop with Antoine d’ Agata (Magnum Photos) & Arantxa Cedillo (Agence Cosmos), Studio Images of French Institute co-organized by Melon Rouge Agency in Phnom Penh, Photo Meeting of Stream Photo Asia in Bangkok with Giulio di Sturco, masterclass at National Museum of Singapore with Rebecca Noris Webb & Alex Webb (Magnum Photos) and KEP EXPO 2012 workshop with Françoise Hugier. Kim Hak joined Photo Phnom Penh 2010 and PHOTO QUAI in Paris 2011. His portfolio has been published internationally in ‘Images Magazine’ (France), ‘Libération’ (France), ‘Ojo de Pez’ (Spain), ‘Internazionale’ (Italy), and online professional websites of ‘La Lettre’(France), ‘Invisible Photography Asia’ (Singapore) and local news as The Cambodia Daily and The Phnom Penh Post.
In 2011, Hak won 2 international prizes, “Artistic Creation Project” by Musée du quai Branly in Paris and 2nd prize of Stream Photo Asia in Bangkok. Hak shared his photography knowledge with Cambodian children by offering 2 workshops to street and deaf children of Kruosar Thmey, in Phnom Penh and Anjali House, in Siem Reap.
In 2012, Hak is invited to join the World Event Young Artists in Nottingham, United Kingdom. In 2013, his work from series “SOMEONE” will be in private collection of the Musée du quai Branly in Paris.
Kim Hak is also a self trained painting artist, he has been known through his painted artworks on over 100 natural leaves of Holy Banyan tree of Buddha which he collected from many different places in regional countries in Southeast Asia; Burma, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. On March 7th, 2009, a framed artwork with 8 special leaves has been offered to His Majesty the King of Cambodia Norodom Sihamoni.
